Grandma Kima and Grandpa Jim visited last week from San Antonio. This was their first time meeting Creux. Of course, they fell in love with him instantly. Mom helped out around the house and let me get a couple long naps in during the morning hours. It was nice since I've yet to have an entire night's sleep for 4 weeks and 1 day! I posted this after my election day post, so please read on so you don't miss a posting. Also, Grayson passed her rocket math step B yesterday and has moved onto step C. I know you don't know what that means, but Grandpa Shorty and I worked with her really hard to get her to the next step so we are really excited! Thursday, November 6, 2008

As a mother of a son born in October 2008, I found it necessary to comment on this momentous occasion -- in his baby book of all places as it stared at me from the coffee table in our basement den. Creux and I, alone as Grayson and Jeremy couldn't keep their eyes open anymore, watched the returns together in our favorite overstuffed green chair. I found myself holding him a little tighter with tears rolling down my face, with the overwhelming desire to drive to Chicago and take part in the celebration; and my favorite Keith Olbermann was the one to announce it to me. I was in heaven. Creux will never know a world where only old white men overrun the pages of our history books. I'm so happy to have shared that experience with him, even though at 4 weeks he just looked at me blankly as I used his clean burp cloth to wipe my tears. He won't remember that night, but hopefully with the entry in his baby book, he will understand his mother more, as well as his country P.O. (pre-Obama). Congrats Mr. President Elect Obama. For our country's sake, and so I can show my face at family gettogethers, please don't prove me wrong.

Happy Halloween!
Here are my beautiful babies on Halloween. Grayson's makeup wa
s done by Grandma Janice, so she has a little Mommy Dearest going on! Scary! Also, it was 70 degrees out but Grandma "requested" that Grayson put a sweatshirt and jeans under her princess costume. I've learned to pick my battles....so she wore the extra clothes. lol. Needless to say she was hot and uncomfortable, so she spent most of the evening passing out candy at the store to over 500 children who came during the Ghost Walk. The Ghost Walk is where most of the businesses in town stay open and pass out candy to the area children. There are an estimated 500 who stop by! We had Creux on display that night as well. A lot of our friends got to see him for the first time...ex. Erin, Sally, Matt, Becky....and many more. I even wore my fifties costume, which I forgot to get a picture of....yeah....forgot....that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Creux slept the entire time in his car seat on the counter. :)

This is Daddy and Creux's favorite place to relax, the overstuffed chair in the basement with the aid of the boppy pillow. Creux is busy watching TV in what Daddy calls his "Little Old Man" shirt, which is just a white onesie. It cracks Jeremy up whenever he sees him in one of these...don't ask me why. I think it's the sleep deprivation at this point. Jeremy has been taking the 3:30 am feeding since I started pumping a little. I take the 12:30 am feeding and the 7:00 am feeding as well as anything after 4:00 am because Daddy can't get back to sleep if he takes a late morning feeding. I was convinced for a couple nights that Daddy promised Creux a new car on his 16th birthday if he would just stay asleep until 4:05 am, that way Daddy got to sleep all night and Mommy got all three feedings. I don't mind giving Daddy a break though. He deserves it.

First Overnight Stay!
Last night we went to Grandpa Bruce's big birthday bash! He's 49 years old! It feels like only yesterday that we were throwing ski ball at Putt Putt Golf and Games when I was 5 and he was 23! Creux had a great time with everyone. He was cuddled all night and got to meet Grandma Tootie for the first time! We forgot the camera, which is probably a good thing because Daddy, Grandpa Bruce and our family friend Kevin were in rare form last night! Good thing he's too young to remember! Lots of pool and board games... a great time as usual. We stayed the night and Creux did great. He loved sleeping in Mommy's arms, but I hope he doesn't get too used to that! Daddy recouped quickly and took the 9:30 am shift so Mommy could get a few hours of sleep. Unfortunately, Grandpa Bruce and Daddy are paying for their night of fun today!
First Big Boy Bath

A couple nights ago we had our first big boy bath. The pee pee looks good, and the umbilical chord has fallen off. We were very excited to get to do the first bath in his baby tub! Of course, the only picture we could get was after the bath because it took all three of us, including Grayson to pull off this feat! Creux is not real fond of being cold...kind of like his mother! He pretty much screamed the entire time until we got him in his adorable bath towel. As you can see, he was pretty happy then. I'm still surprised we didn't get hosed though. He likes to do that to mom more than anyone!

Introducing Mr. Creux Myer Rieman
This is our first entry on our blog...thanks to Aunt Ali, Mommy is going to try to do this so please don't laugh too hard at my lack of blogger knowledge.
Creux Myer Rieman was born on October 8, 2008 at 2:01 am at Home Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana. He was 21 inches long and 7 lbs 13 ozs. The family members at the hospital for his birth were Big Sister Grayson, Grandma Vickie, Uncle Josh, Grandpa Bob, Grandma Linda, Grandma Janice, Grandpa Shorty, Aunt Ashley, and Aunt Emily. Our visitors were Rick, Zac, Jen, Parker, Madison, Grandpa Bruce, Grandma Cheryl, Aunt Zoe, and Chris.
Mommy thought that Creux looked like Mr. Magoo, so the entire time in the hospital I called him Creux Magoo. His eyes were still swolen and squinty and he looked like a little old man with a receeding hairline. ADORABLE! But he did look like Mr. Magoo!
His Daddy was in love with him from the beginning. Let's just say that Mommy was smiling really big as he was delivered and Daddy was crying like a baby! He didn't stop looking at him or touching him until he went back to work the next week.
Creux is 16 days old right now so I need to play some catch up. He's doing well. We've been dealing with some jaundice so we've been to the doctor or hospital to get labs 6 times in 2 weeks....no fun. We were told today that he's not gaining wait so I have to give him a supplemental bottle along with nursing. Breastfeeding is an entire story unto its self, so I won't bore people with details...but let's just say....OUCH! And anyone who told me after 2 weeks it would get better was just trying to get me to do it for at least 2 weeks I'm convinced! It still hurts like hell at latch on and for the first 30 seconds I actually have to make sure I'm not squeezing him too hard with my screeches of pain. But hey, I'm doing it. Been pumping more though and now I am giving him a soy bottle supplement inbetween feedings. I have to feed him every 2 hours. I've noticed a big difference in how sound he is sleeping now that he is satisfied. His bilrubin count is down to 11.2 from 14.5 a week and a half ago. He's up to 8 lbs 3 ozs, but that's what he was last week. It takes him 45 minutes to eat on one side, so I thought he was getting plenty to eat, but apparently he's not. He's got some baby acne that began when I ate some Taco Bell and has yet to go away. Oops.
So far, although I hate to say this because I'm supersticious, he's a really good baby. He only cries when he's hungry or when I change is diaper. But he loves to cuddle! Grandma Vickie came to visit and stayed with us from Sunday to Friday last week and held him a lot, which he loves! It was wonderful to have her here! We couldn't get her to sit down though. She did laundry, cooked meals, allowed me to take naps sometimes while we were getting used to schedules. I cried when she left and so did she. It was really hard to see her go.
Well I hope I've covered everything thus far. I could go into the birthing story, but that would involve curse words about my anisthesiologist...so I'll spare everyone since this is about Creux and not me. Hope our friends from afar will enjoy this, or at least the grandparents. Now let's see if I can figure out how to load pictures!
